Resolve, Directing the Department of Education To Explore Options To Increase Participation in the University of Southern Maine's Extended Teacher Education Program

Sec. 1. Evaluation. Resolved: That the certification office within the Department of Education shall evaluate the Extended Teacher Education Program at the University of Southern Maine, referred to in this section as “the program,” and explore options to increase the participation of graduate students preparing for a teaching career in the program. Options may include, but are not limited to, increasing the public visibility of the program, increasing outreach to current teachers and students in teacher training programs, increasing public school participation in the program, expanding additional funding and other resources for the program and increasing public and private financial support for students in the program. The certification office shall by January 15, 2012 submit a report to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs with recommendations that identify the most practical ways to increase participation in the program.
