An Act To Extend the Jurisdiction of the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices to the Executive Branch

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 1 MRSA §1008, sub-§1-A  is enacted to read:

1-A Executive branch ethics.   To investigate and make advisory recommendations to the appropriate body of any apparent violations of executive branch ethics;

Sec. 2. Development of proposed legislation. The Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices, referred to in this section as "the commission," shall develop proposed legislation to expand the jurisdiction of the commission to the Governor and the executive branch. The commission shall submit the proposed legislation to the Second Regular Session of the 124th Legislature no later than December 3, 2009.

Sec. 3. Effective date. That section of this Act that enacts the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 1, section 1008, subsection 1-A takes effect August 1, 2010.
