Resolve, To Establish a Landlocked Salmon Enhancement Pilot Project

Sec. 1. Landlocked salmon enhancement pilot project. Resolved: That the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, referred to in this resolve as "the department," shall develop a landlocked salmon enhancement pilot project designed to allow the harvest of salmon while at the same time protecting and enhancing the wild salmon population, producing trophy fish and determining the maximum attainable age of salmon.

1. Development of pilot project. The department shall initiate a pilot project on Long Pond, formerly known as Great Pond, in the towns of Mount Desert and Southwest Harbor and on Jordan Pond in the Town of Mount Desert. Of all the salmon stocked in Long Pond, between 10% and 20% of the stocked hatchery salmon must be stocked with all fins intact and unclipped. All salmon with their fins intact taken from Long Pond must be released alive immediately. All salmon larger than 18 inches taken from Jordan Pond must be released alive immediately.

2. Report. The department shall submit a report on the pilot project to the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife by February 1, 2010. The report must include a detailed description of the pilot project and recommendations as to whether the pilot project should be extended to other waters.
