An Act To Provide for Treble Damages for Injuries Caused by a Person under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 14 MRSA §1455 is enacted to read:
§ 1455. Negligent conduct involving alcohol or illegal drugs
In an action where a defendant is found negligent while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, in addition to compensatory damages for bodily injury caused by that negligence the defendant is liable for an amount equal to 2 times the compensatory damages.
