An Act To Protect Consumers from Charges after a Free Trial Period

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 10 MRSA §1210-A,  as enacted by PL 2001, c. 210, §1, is repealed and the following enacted in its place:

§ 1210-A Charges after trial period

A merchant may not offer a consumer a product or service for a free trial period if, as a result of accepting the product or service for the free trial period, the consumer is required to contact the merchant to avoid receiving additional products or services and incurring a financial obligation for those additional products or services.

This bill prohibits a merchant from offering a consumer product or service for a free trial period if the consumer is required to contact the merchant to avoid receiving additional products or services and incurring a financial obligation.
