Fiscal Detail and Notes
	Repealing the motor vehicle inspection laws will decrease budgeted Highway Fund revenue by $2,355,150 in fiscal year 2007-08 and $3,140,200 in each fiscal year thereafter.
	Repealing the motor vehicle inspection laws will eliminate traffic infraction fines for inspection violations which will, in turn, decrease revenue to the General Fund by $910,508 in fiscal year 2007-08 and $1,214,010 annually beginning in fiscal year 2008-09, decrease revenue to the County Jail Fund by $25,830 in fiscal year 2007-08 and $34,440 annually beginning in fiscal year 2008-09, decrease revenue to the Criminal Justice Academy Surcharge Fund by  $32,288 in fiscal year 2007-08 and $43,050 annually beginning in fiscal year 2008-09, and decrease revenue to the Civil Legal Services Fund by $78,750 in fiscal year 2007-08 and $105,000 annually beginning in fiscal year 2008-09.
	Repeal will further eliminate 2 State Police Sergeant positions, 10 Public Safety Inspector I positions and one Office Associate II position in the Motor Vehicle Inspection program within the Department of Public Safety.  The elimination of these positions, plus associated operating costs, will result in Highway Fund deallocations of $816,848 and $1,120,892 in fiscal years 2007-08 and 2008-09, respectively.
	The Department of Education will also need to find an alternative method of assuring the safety and readiness of the school bus fleet in Maine.  The additional cost to the Department and/or to local municipalities or school units can not be determined at this time and will depend on the additional resources needed to implement the alternative inspection method.
