An Act To Improve Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities in Maine

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §23001, sub-§2,  as enacted by PL 2005, c. 570, Pt. A, §1, is amended to read:

2. Plan.   Develop by January 1, 2007 and update annually thereafter a plan to increase the opportunities for individuals with disabilities to be employed by that department, agency or instrumentality of the State. This plan must include a description of the extent to which the special needs of employees who are individuals with disabilities are being met . Plans and annual updates must be provided to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over labor matters and to the Commission on Disability and Employment within the Department of Labor, Maine Jobs Council by March 1st of each year;

Sec. 2. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.

Initiative: Provides funds for one Disability Employment Services Coordinator position within the Bureau of Human Resources.

This bill requires state agencies to provide copies of their disability employment plans and annual updates to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over labor matters and to the Commission on Disability and Employment within the Department of Labor, Maine Jobs Council by March 1st of each year. The bill also provides funding for one Disability Employment Services Coordinator position within the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of Human Resources.
