An Act To Establish Uniformity in School Building Construction

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §15905, sub-§4-A  is enacted to read:

4-A School size; standard design plans; funding.   The state board shall adopt rules pertaining to new school construction projects that define what constitutes a small school, a medium school and a large school. The rules adopted by the state board must include standard school construction plans for small, medium and large elementary schools, middle schools and high schools based on student enrollment. The state board shall annually review the standard school construction plans for new school construction projects and update them if necessary. The state board may not approve the allocation of state funds for a new school construction project unless the new school construction plan submitted in the application meets the applicable standard school construction plans. Rules adopted pursuant to this subsection are major substantive rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.

This bill requires the State Board of Education to adopt rules for new school construction projects that define what constitutes small, medium and large schools.
