Item 2
Bill Tracking Chamber Status

Amend the bill in section 1 by striking out all of §1901 and inserting the following:

§ 1901. General restriction

A person may not use , a vehicle on a public way or sell or equip a vehicle with a lens, muffler, reflector, lighting device, window-tinting material or other for use on a public way with aftermarket equipment contrary to this Title or contrary to the rules of the Chief of the State Police.’

summary

This amendment replaces the bill.

The bill amends the law relating to use of aftermarket equipment on motor vehicles by removing the specific list of aftermarket equipment prohibited by law; removing the prohibition on the sale of or equipping a motor vehicle with aftermarket equipment; limiting the prohibition to use on a public way; and removing reference to violations of State Police rules regarding aftermarket equipment.

The amendment, like the bill, removes the specific list of aftermarket equipment prohibited by law. However, the amendment, unlike the bill, provides that a person may not use a vehicle on a public way or sell or equip a vehicle for use on a public way with aftermarket equipment contrary to the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 29-A or contrary to the rules of the Chief of the State Police.
