The Secretary of State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average length for the general election in November. If the number or size of the referendum questions increases the ballot length, an additional appropriation of $8,000 or more may be required.  A special election would require an additional appropriation of $121,392.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles within the Department of the Secretary of State will require an additional one-time Highway Fund allocation of $8,600 in fiscal year 2006-07 for travel and printing and mailing costs which will be necessary as a consequence of the State's participation in the federal Unified Carrier Registration System (UCRS).
Under current law, the Highway Fund has budgeted annual revenue of $1,700,000 as a consequence of the State's participation in the current Single State Registration System (SSRS) which expires on December 31, 2006. This amendment proposes to replace the State's participation in the SSRS with the aforementioned UCRS.  If the State is not authorized to join the UCRS then the Highway Fund will experience a loss of revenue; the estimated amounts are $850,000 in fiscal year 2006-07 and $1,700,000 for each fiscal year thereafter.
