Sec. 1. Commissioner of Education to develop entrepreneurship curriculum to be
implemented in schools from kindergarten to grade 12. Resolved: That the
Commissioner of Education shall include in the next review of the
system of learning results, as required by the Maine Revised
Statutes, Title 20-A, section 6209, subsection 4,
entrepreneurship education as a core content in the review of the
State's learning standards, including recommendations for the
inclusion of entrepreneurial concepts and skills in the guiding
principles listed in Title 20-A, section 6209, subsection 1. The
review required in this section must consider the following
desirable outcomes for students:

 
1. The initiation of personal, community and business
ventures;

 
2. The development of an awareness and understanding of the
economic and personal factors that contribute to the success of
entrepreneurial ventures; development of personal skills by
initiating, planning and implementing an entrepreneurial venture;
and development of communication skills; and

 
3. The development of the ability to respond to changes in a
business environment by requiring a practical approach that uses
the potential of the student and that encourages the student to
use opportunities based on informed risk taking and problem
solving; and be it further

 
Sec. 2. University of Maine System and Maine Community College System to develop
entrepreneurship curriculum to be implemented at college campuses. Resolved: That
the University of Maine System and the Maine Community College
System shall develop an entrepreneurship curriculum based on the
factors described in section one of this resolve to be
implemented at all the campuses and shall market community
colleges as training centers for business owners and operators;
and be it further

 
Sec. 3. Establishment of Entrepreneurship Education Task Force. Resolved: That
the Entrepreneurship Education Task Force is established and
consists of the follow members: the Commissioner of Education,
the Chancellor of the University of Maine System and the
President of the Maine Community College System. The
Entrepreneurship Education Task Force shall report on the
progress of the development and implementation of entrepreneurial
curricula in elementary, secondary and postsecondary schools in
the State to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and
Cultural Affairs no later than February 1, 2006; and be it
further
