Sec. 1. Department of Education to develop proposal for magnet school for languages.
Resolved: That the Department of Education shall develop a
proposal for a school for languages with the purpose of providing
certain high-achieving high school students with a challenging
educational experience based upon the same format as the Maine
School of Science and Mathematics established in the Maine
Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, chapter 312. As part of the
development of the proposal for the school for languages required
in this section, the Department of Education shall determine the
location, organization and curriculum of the school for
languages; and be it further

 
Sec. 2. Rules. Resolved: That the Department of Education may adopt
major substantive rules to carry out the purposes of this resolve
pursuant to the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 5, chapter 375,
subchapter 2-A; and be it further

 
Sec. 3. Report. Resolved: That the Department of Education shall
report on the proposal for the school for languages required in
section 1 and submit any recommended legislation to the Joint
Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs no later
than December 7, 2005. After receipt and review of the report,
the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs
may report out a bill to the Second Regular Session of the 122nd
Legislature.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve directs the Department of Education to develop a
proposal for a magnet school for languages with the purpose of
providing certain high-achieving high school students with a
challenging educational experience based upon the same format as
the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone.
