Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 8 MRSA §1037 is enacted to read:

 
§1037.__Parking lot monitoring

 
A slot machine operator must monitor, on an hourly basis
during operating hours, any parking facility serving the licensed
premises to ensure that no child under 16 years of age has been
left unattended in any vehicle parked in such facility.__
Monitoring under this section means visual inspection of the
premises by persons employed by the slot machine operator.

 
Sec. 2. 8 MRSA §1054, sub-§§8 and 9, as enacted by PL 2003, c. 687, Pt.
A, §5 and affected by Pt. B, §11, are amended to read:

 
8. Failure to deposit funds. Violates section 1036,
subsection 2; or

 
9. Failure to grant access to premises, equipment and
records. Violates section 1042.; and

 
Sec. 3. 8 MRSA §1054, sub-§10 is enacted to read:

 
10.__Child endangerment.__Violates section 1037, and a child
under 16 years of age has been left unattended for more than 2
hours in a parked vehicle on the premises of the slot machine
operator.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill seeks to prevent the endangerment of children by
requiring slot machine operators to conduct regular visual
monitoring of their parking lots to ensure that children under 16
years of age have not been left unattended and establishes
criminal penalties for failure to provide such monitoring.
