Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §13155, sub-§5, as amended by PL 2003, c. 695, Pt. B,
§13 and affected by Pt. C, §1, is repealed and the following
enacted in its place:

 
5.__Fee.__The annual ATV registration fee is:

 
A.__For a resident, $30.__The registration for an ATV owned
by a resident is valid for one year, commencing on July 1st
of each year.__A person who obtains a resident ATV
registration after March 31st may pay $37.50 and receive a
registration covering the remainder of the registration
period plus one additional year; and

 
B.__For a nonresident:

 
(1)__Forty dollars for a registration valid for 3
consecutive days.__A person may purchase more than one
3-day registration in any season;

 
(2)__Fifty-five dollars for a registration valid for 10
consecutive days.__A person may purchase more than one
10-day registration in any season; and

 
(3)__Sixty-five dollars for a seasonal registration.

 
The registration for an ATV owned by a nonresident must
specify the dates for which the registration is valid.

 
Five dollars from each registration fee collected pursuant to
this subsection must be transferred to the ATV Recreational
Management Fund established in section 1893, subsection 2.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill creates a short-term registration system for all-
terrain vehicles for nonresidents similar to the short-term
registration system established for snowmobiles.
