Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §4307, sub-§4-A is enacted to read:

 
4-A.__Other special circumstances.__When an applicant or
recipient is assisted in relocating to another municipality and
the applicant's or recipient's housing is provided or paid for by
a social service agency, the municipality of responsibility is
the municipality of immediate prior residence for a time period
that is determined according to this subsection:

 
A.__If the housing that is provided would qualify as housing
under subsection 4, paragraph A, the time period of
responsibility is 30 days; and

 
B.__If the housing that is provided would qualify as housing
under subsection 4, paragraph B, the time period of
responsibility is 6 months or until the person moves to
permanent housing, whichever occurs first.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill provides that a municipality remains responsible for
30 days to 6 months for the basic living needs of a person who
qualifies for general assistance for whom a social service agency
has provided housing if that housing is provided in a new
municipality.
