Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §683 is enacted to read:

 
§683.__Campaign signs

 
A person may not display any campaign signs, posters or
stickers containing a candidate's name or otherwise intending to
influence the opinion of any voter on an issue in any local or
state election more than 30 days prior to the election.

 
Sec. 2. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶H, as amended by PL 1999, c. 152, Pt.
G, §2, is further amended to read:

 
H. Signs bearing political messages relating to an
election, primary or referendum, provided except that these
signs may not be placed within the right-of-way prior to 6
weeks 30 days before the election, primary or referendum to
which they relate and must be removed by the candidate or
political committee not later than one week thereafter; and

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill prohibits the display of campaign signs, posters or
stickers more than 30 days prior to an election.
