| The Bureau of Insurance in the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation will incur significant additional costs to investigate and report on insurance practices as specified in the bill. These costs will depend on the amount of investigating that is needed (i.e., the current availability of information vs. the need to collect new information from the more than 900 insurance companies in Maine for all lines of insurance), the examination and analysis of this information for reporting by January 2004, the need\utilization of outside contractors for this purpose, and any potential legal challenges to securing the required information. The cost to the Bureau cannot be estimated at this time. | |||||||
