Sec. 1. Study required. Resolved: That the Department of
Transportation shall conduct a study of the benefits,
feasibility and cost of constructing a network of off-road
bike and walking paths along the commuting corridors with the
highest volume of traffic in the State. This study must
address the following:

 
1. Identify and map out the routes on which the greatest
number of state residents commute to work each day;

 
2. Identify the routing possibilities and obstacles to
constructing off-road bike paths that could be used for
alternative means of transportation to work;

 
3. Estimate the number of persons likely to use such trails
for commuting, fitness or recreational purposes; and

 
4. Estimate the cost of constructing such a trail network.

 
The Department of Transportation shall submit a report on
the results of this study to the Joint Standing Committee on
Transportation on or before January 15, 2004.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve requires the Department of Transportation to
conduct a study on the feasibility and expense of constructing
a network of off-road bike and walking paths along the
commuting corridors with the highest volume of traffic in the
State.
