Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 16 MRSA §358 is enacted to read:

 
§358.__Audio recordings of emergency calls

 
1.__Copies admitted if authenticated.__Copies of audio
recordings of emergency calls made to the E-9-1-1 system, when
duly authenticated by the person in charge of the public
safety answering point at which the call was recorded, must be
admitted in evidence equally with the original recording.

 
2.__Application.__Title 25, chapter 352 applies to audio
recordings and copies of audio recordings subject to this
section.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill allows copies of audio recordings of E-9-1-1 calls
to be admitted into evidence if properly authenticated. The
Maine Revised Statutes, Title 25, chapter 352 governs
emergency services communication and disclosure of information
on audio tapes and defines terms.
