Sec. 1. Universal special retirement plan for law enforcement officers; report.
Resolved: That, not later than December 31, 2001, the Maine State
Retirement System shall report to the Joint Standing Committee on
Labor on the feasibility, advantages, disadvantages, cost
implications and other relevant information concerning the
establishment of a universal special retirement plan for law
enforcement officers. The report must evaluate the establishment
of a special retirement plan that is mandatory for all law
enforcement officers at the State, county and municipal level;
embodies a comprehensive definition of covered positions;
provides portability of benefits between different units and
levels of government law enforcement agencies; provides benefits
consistent and competitive with those of neighboring states; and
addresses transition options and issues for current officers.
Following receipt of the report, the committee may report out
related legislation to the Second Regular Session of the 120th
Legislature.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve directs the Maine State Retirement System to
report to the Joint Standing Committee on Labor on the
establishment a universal special retirement plan for all levels
of government law enforcement officers. The committee is
authorized to introduce related legislation in the Second Regular
Session of the 120th Legislature.
