Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts of the Legislature do not become
effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as
emergencies; and

 
Whereas, the scallop season runs from December 1st to April
15th; and

 
Whereas, it is necessary that this legislation be enacted as an
emergency so that it will take effect during the scallop season;
and

 
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create
an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and
require the following legislation as immediately necessary for
the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now,
therefore,

 
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §6728 is enacted to read:

 
§6728.__Daily catch limit

 
A holder of a scallop boat license is limited to a daily catch
of 225 pounds of scallops per day or the equivalent, as__measured
by 25 gallons of scallops or 18 standard totes of scallops.

 
Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble,
this Act takes effect when approved.

 
SUMMARY

 
The purpose of this bill is to place a limitation on the daily
catch of scallops for any person holding a scallop boat license.
