Sec. 1. Development of protocol. Resolved: That the Commissioner of
Public Safety shall develop no later than December 31, 2001 a
protocol for handling cases of domestic violence. The protocol
must include strategies designed to protect the safety of victims
of domestic violence, including enhanced protection for the
victim at work and at home and the facilitation of the victim's
recovery of personal property at the victim's home during the
first 72 hours following the filing of the complaint; and be it
further

 
Sec. 2. Distribution of protocol. Resolved: That the Commissioner of
Public Safety shall make available and distribute copies of the
protocol to municipal police departments and county sheriff
departments; and be it further

 
Sec. 3. Inclusion in curriculum. Resolved: That the Maine Criminal
Justice Academy shall incorporate into its training program the
protocol established pursuant to section 1.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve directs the Commissioner of Public Safety to
develop a protocol for dealing with domestic violence cases.
Once completed, the commissioner is directed to distribute copies
of the protocol to municipal police departments and county
sheriff departments. The Maine Criminal Justice Academy is
required to incorporate the protocol into its training program.
