Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §222, sub-§3, as enacted by PL 1987, c. 520, is amended to read:

3. Assistance. Provide assistance in matching retiring farmers with persons desiring to enter farming and recruit and place interns with farmer-supervisors; and

Sec. 2. 7 MRSA §222, sub-§4, as amended by PL 1989, c. 700, Pt. A, §32, is further amended to read:

4. Cooperation. Cooperate with appropriate local, state and federal agencies and institutions and with farm organizations and interested individuals, including the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, the University of Maine and the Cooperative Extension Service, in carrying out this chapter.; and

Sec. 3. 7 MRSA §222, sub-§5 is enacted to read:

5.__Staff support.__Designate an employee of the department to oversee the Maine Agricultural and Internship Training Program and recommend an annual budget necessary to implement the provisions of this chapter.

SUMMARY

This bill requires the Commissioner of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources to designate a person within the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources to oversee the Maine Agricultural Internship and Training Program.
