| | | Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts and resolves of the Legislature do | | not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless | | enacted as emergencies; and |

| | | Whereas, the State's economy is slowing down; and |

| | | Whereas, gasoline prices are rising; and |

| | | Whereas, to provide immediate assistance to all the State's | | citizens, this legislation needs to be an emergency; and |

| | | Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create | | an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and | | require the following legislation as immediately necessary for | | the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, | | therefore, be it |

| | | Sec. 1. Decrease in gasoline tax. Resolved: That, beginning on the first | | day of the month after the effective date of this resolve and | | ending on May 25, 2001, the Department of Administrative and | | Financial Services, Bureau of Revenue Services shall decrease the | | excise tax on all grades of gasoline and diesel fuel by 10¢. |

| | | Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, | | this resolve takes effect when approved. |
