Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶H, as amended by PL 1999, c. 152, Pt.
G, §2, is further amended to read:

 
H. Signs bearing political messages relating to an
election, primary or referendum, provided that these signs
may not be placed within the right-of-way prior to 6 3 weeks
before the election, primary or referendum to which they
relate and must be removed by the candidate or political
committee not later than one week thereafter; and

 
SUMMARY

 
Current law provides that political signs may not be placed in
a right-of-way prior to 6 weeks before the election to which they
relate. This bill changes the allowable time frame to 3 weeks
prior to the election.
