Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts of the Legislature do not become
effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as
emergencies; and

 
Whereas, immediate enhancement of the current Moosehead Trail
signs is necessary for tourists traveling alternate routes in
Maine; and

 
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create
an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and
require the following legislation as immediately necessary for
the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now,
therefore,

 
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. P&SL 1957, c. 67, §1, 2nd ¶ is amended to read:

 
The State Highway Commission Department of Transportation
shall erect and maintain suitable signs designating the
"Moosehead Trail." and shall conduct before Memorial Day of each
year routine maintenance on the signs.

 
Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble,
this Act takes effect when approved.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill requires that the Department of Transportation
conduct routine maintenance on signs designating the Moosehead
Trail before Memorial Day of each year. The Moosehead Trail
consists of the highway beginning in Belfast at the junction of
Route U.S. 1 and Route 3, Route 7 to Newport and Dexter, Route 23
to Sangerville to the junction of Route 15 in Guilford, Route 15
to Greenville and Jackman and ending at the junction of Route 15
and U.S. 201.
