Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 28-A MRSA §703, as amended by PL 1997, c. 373, §65, is
repealed and the following enacted in its place:

 
§703.__Employment of violators prohibited

 
A licensee may not employ as a manager or leave in charge of
the licensed premises any person who has been convicted within
the last 5 years of a Class A, Class B or Class C crime or the
violation of any liquor laws or whose license for the sale of
liquor has been revoked within the last 5 years.

 
SUMMARY

 
Current law prohibits a person licensed to sell liquor from
employing as a manager or leaving the licensed premises in charge
of a person who has been convicted of a violation of any liquor
laws or whose license to sell liquor has been revoked within the
previous 5 years.

 
This bill prohibits the employment as a manager or person in
charge any person who, within the last 5 years, has been
convicted of a Class A, Class B or Class C crime or the violation
of any liquor laws or whose license to sell liquor has been
revoked within the last 5 years.
