Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §2926, sub-§5 is enacted to read:

5.__Choice in designation of public safety answering point.__ Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, a municipality that receives dispatch services from an agency approved as a public safety answering point may choose to have that agency designated as its public safety answering point.__For purposes of this subsection, "dispatch services" includes relay routing and transfer routing.

SUMMARY

This bill allows a municipality that receives dispatch services from an agency approved as a public safety answering point to choose that agency as its public safety answering point. For purposes of this provision, "dispatch services" includes routing and transferring the call to the appropriate public or private safety agency that dispatches the needed service.
