Sec. 1. 26 MRSA §600 is enacted to read:

§600.__Temporary employee

An employer may not hire a temporary employee for a period greater than 90 days unless the temporary employee is replacing a permanent employee who is absent from work on family medical leave pursuant to subchapter VI-A.

SUMMARY

This bill prohibits a business from hiring a temporary employee for a period greater than 90 days unless the temporary employee is filling in for a permanent employee who is out on family medical leave.
