Sec. 1. 36 MRSA §1603, sub-§1, śC, as amended by PL 1989, c. 104, Pt. C, §§8 and 10, is further amended to read:

C. The cost of reimbursement by the State for services a county provides to the unorganized territory in accordance with Title 30-A, chapter 305. No A county may not be reimbursed for services provided on or after January 1, 1979, unless a legislative allocation is obtained pursuant to this chapter. If a county receives a reimbursement under this chapter that includes an amount of funds designated for a specific purpose and the county does not spend those funds on that specific purpose, the reimbursement to that county for the next fiscal year must be reduced by an amount equal to the amount of funds designated for the specific purpose.

SUMMARY

This bill requires that if a county is reimbursed by the State for services to the unorganized territory for a specific purpose and the county does not spend those funds on that specific purpose, then the county's reimbursement for the next fiscal year must be reduced by an amount equal to the amount of funds that were designated for the specific purpose.
