Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7794, sub-§9-B, as enacted by PL 1997, c. 324, §2 and
affected by §7, is amended to read:

 
9-B. Certificate of number; term. A certificate of number is
issued to the owner of a watercraft or a dealer for a specific
calendar year and is valid through December to the next May 31st
of the year for which it was issued.

 
Sec. 2. 12 MRSA §7824, sub-§2, ķA, as amended by PL 1997, c. 24, Pt. I,
§8, is further amended to read:

 
A. For residents, $25. The registration for a snowmobile
owned by a resident is valid for one year, commencing on
July January 1st of each year; and

 
Sec. 3. 12 MRSA §7854, sub-§1, as amended by PL 1997, c. 432, §54, is
further amended to read:

 
1. Application and issuance. The commissioner, or an agent
designated by the commissioner, may register and assign a
registration number to any ATV upon application and payment of an
annual fee by the owner. The commissioner shall charge a fee of
$1 in addition to the annual fee for each registration issued by
an employee of the department. The registration number must be
clearly displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle. A
registration is valid for one year commencing July January 1st of
each year.

 
Sec. 4. 36 MRSA §1503, sub-§8-B, as enacted by PL 1997, c. 324, §4 and
affected by §7, is amended to read:

 
8-B. Registration period. "Registration period" means from
January June 1st to December May 31st of, the year period for
which the certificate of number is issued pursuant to Title 12,
section 7794.

 
Sec. 5. Transition provisions. Notwithstanding the Maine Revised
Statutes, Title 12, section 7794, subsection 9-B, a certificate
of number issued to the owner of a watercraft or a dealer from
January 1, 2000 to May 31, 2000 is valid to December 31, 2000.
Such an owner of a watercraft or dealer may purchase a
certificate of number that expires May 31, 2001 for 1/2 the
ordinary cost from January 1, 2001 to May 31, 2001.

 
Notwithstanding the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 12, section
7824, subsection 2, paragraph A, a registration for a snowmobile
owned by a resident that is issued July 1, 1999 to December 31,
1999 is valid to June 30, 2000. Such a resident may
