Sec. 1. 9-B MRSA §165 is enacted to read:

§165.__Disclosure of certain information to merchants

Notwithstanding section 162, a financial institution shall furnish to a merchant, at the merchant's request, the following information on a closed account:

1.__Telephone number and address.__Whether the customer's telephone number and address are correctly reflected on the customer's check;

2.__Date closed.__The date that the account in question was closed; and

3.__Signature.__Whether the signature on the customer's check matches the customer's signature on file.

SUMMARY

This bill authorizes financial institutions to provide certain information on closed accounts to merchants.
