Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §671, sub-§1, as enacted by PL 1985, c. 161, §6, is
amended to read:

 
1. Name announced. A voter who wishes to vote must shall
state his and sign the voter's name and, upon request, shall
state the voter's street address to an election clerk who shall
announce the name in a loud, clear voice. The election clerk
shall verify the identity of the voter by checking the signature
of the voter against the signature on file for that voter in the
general register kept pursuant to section 171, subsection 1.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill requires a voter to sign the voter's name before
voting and requires an election clerk to verify the identity of
the voter by checking the signature of the voter against the
signature on file for that voter in the general register.
