Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §11616, sub-§2, as enacted by PL 1989, c. 559, §10, is repealed.

Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §11616, sub-§2-A is enacted to read:

2-A.__Period of study.__An eligible full-time or part-time student may receive a scholarship as long as the student is in compliance with the satisfactory academic progress policies of the institution that the student attends.

SUMMARY

This bill amends the laws governing incentive scholarships by permitting a student to receive a scholarship if the student meets the satisfactory academic progress policy of the institution that the student attends rather than limiting the award of a scholarship to a period of 8 semesters. This change is consistent with recent changes in federal law.
