| | | Sec. 1. 38 MRSA §1319-O, sub-§1,¶F is enacted to read: |

The board shall adopt rules establishing alternative | | standards for the management of "universal waste," as defined in | | 40 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 273, Section 273.6.__The | | rules must incorporate the set of management standards | | established in 40 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 273.__Rules | | adopted pursuant to this paragraph are routine technical rules as | | defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter II-A. |

| | | This bill requires the Board of Environmental Protection to | | adopt rules for the management of certain hazardous wastes, | | including batteries, pesticides and thermostats, that are managed | | under the federal universal waste rules. The rules must | | incorporate the management standards established in the federal | | rules regarding universal waste. |
