| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |
|
| | Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA, Chapter 13, Subchapter III-A is enacted to read: |
|
| DISCLOSURE BY PERSONS OR ORGANIZATION |
|
| COLLECTING SIGNATURES FOR REFERENDUM PETITIONS |
|
| | As used in this subchapter, unless the context otherwise | indicates, the following terms have the following meanings. |
|
| | 1.__Circulator.__"Circulator" has the same meaning as defined | in the Constitution of Maine, Article IV, Part Third, Section 20. |
|
| | 2.__Direct initiative of legislation.__"Direct initiative of | legislation" means the procedure established in the Constitution | of Maine, Article IV, Part Third, Section 18. |
|
| | 3.__Paid signature collector.__"Paid signature collector" | means a person, firm or organization that contracts or | subcontracts or is paid anything of value to collect signatures | on a petition for a people's veto or a direct initiative of | legislation. |
|
| | 4.__People's veto.__"People's veto" means the procedure | established in the Constitution of Maine, Article IV, Part Third, | Section 17. |

| §1042.__Disclosure required; report |
|
| | A paid signature collector shall report to the commission the | following information: |
|
| | 1.__Name of paid signature collector.__The name, address and | telephone number of the paid signature collector; |
|
| | 2.__Amount and source of funds.__The amount and source of the | money received by the paid signature collector for the collection | of signatures; |
|
| | 3.__Officers or directors.__If applicable, the names and | addresses of officers or directors of the paid signature | collector and compensation paid to those officers and directors; |
|
|
