Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §1561, sub-§§4 and 5 are enacted to read:

4.__Reimbursement by county of residence.__A county may recover the medical and dental expenses incurred by a prisoner who was a resident of another county in this State at the time the offense was committed.__Upon receipt of a request for the recovery of medical or dental expenses, the treasurer of the county in which the prisoner resided shall promptly pay those expenses.

5.__Governor shall seek reciprocity.__The Governor shall seek reciprocity agreements with other states and countries to provide for the recovery of medical and dental expenses incurred by prisoners from other states and countries.

SUMMARY

This bill requires the county in which a prisoner resided to reimburse the county in which the prisoner is incarcerated for medical and dental expenses.
