Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 36 MRSA §558, as repealed and replaced by PL 1981, c. 23,
is amended by adding at the end a new paragraph to read:

 
If the real estate property tax payments for the entire fiscal
year are not paid to the municipality at the time of closing, the
seller shall give to the purchaser at the time of closing written
notice of the amount of tax due for the rest of that fiscal year.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill requires a seller of real estate to give written
notice to the purchaser of the remaining amount of property tax
due if the parties enter into a pro rata agreement that does not
satisfy the entire property tax bill for that fiscal year.
