Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2053, sub-§6, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A,
§2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

 
6. Traffic circles or rotary intersections. An operator of a
vehicle approaching a traffic circle or rotary intersection, must
shall yield the right-of-way to a vehicle already within the
traffic circle or rotary intersection, unless otherwise regulated
by a law enforcement officer or by traffic control devices. An
operator within a traffic circle or rotary intersection shall
move to or be in the right lane at least 2 exits prior to leaving
the circle or intersection, unless otherwise regulated by a law
enforcement officer or by traffic control signs, markings or
devices.

 
SUMMARY

 
The Secretary of State's rules of the road require a motorist
who is leaving a traffic circle or rotary intersection to be in
the right lane 2 exits prior to leaving the circle. This bill
codifies the Secretary of State's rule into the motor vehicle
statutes.
