Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §1509 is enacted to read:

§1509.__Citizen road watch program

The Bureau of State Police shall provide for the installation and operation of a toll-free line for motorists to report vehicles being driven in a manner that endangers people.__The bureau in consultation with the Department of Transportation shall design signs and develop public service announcements to make the public aware of the citizen road watch program and the appropriate information to provide when reporting.__ Notwithstanding Title 23, chapter 21, the Department of Transportation may erect signs with the toll-free number for the citizen road watch program.

SUMMARY

This bill directs the Bureau of State Police to install and operate a toll-free line for receiving reports of motor vehicles being driven in a manner that endangers people. It directs the bureau to work with the Department of Transportation to develop signs and public service announcements to make the public aware of a citizen road watch program.
