Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §524, sub-§§5 to 7 are enacted to read:

 
5.__Veterans of the Battle of Iwo Jima; special license
plates.__The Secretary of State, on application and upon evidence
of payment of the excise tax required by Title 36, section 1482
and a one-time additional fee of $10, shall issue a registration
certificate and set of special designating plates, to be used in
lieu of regular registration plates, to any Maine resident who
provides evidence satisfactory to the Secretary of State that the
applicant served in the United States military forces at the
Battle of Iwo Jima, fought in February and March 1945 on the
island of Iwo Jima, Japan.__The one-time additional fee of $10 is
credited to the Highway Fund for administrative and production
costs.

 
These special designating plates must be of a design as
determined by the Secretary of State.

 
6.__Veterans of the Battle of Normandy; special license
plates.__The Secretary of State, on application and upon evidence
of payment of the excise tax required by Title 36, section 1482
and a one-time additional fee of $10, shall issue a registration
certificate and set of special designating plates, to be used in
lieu of regular registration plates, to any Maine resident who
provides evidence satisfactory to the Secretary of State that the
applicant served in the United States military forces at the
Battle of Normandy, France, fought in 1944.__The one-time
additional fee of $10 is credited to the Highway Fund for
administrative and production costs.

 
These special designating plates must be of a design as
determined by the Secretary of State.

 
7.__Veterans of Operation Desert Storm; special license
plates.__The Secretary of State, on application and upon evidence
of payment of the excise tax required by Title 36, section 1482
and a one-time additional fee of $10, shall issue a registration
certificate and set of special designating plates, to be used in
lieu of regular registration plates, to any Maine resident who
provides evidence satisfactory to the Secretary of State that the
applicant served in the United States military forces in
Operation Desert Storm, a multinational military campaign
conducted in Kuwait and Iraq in 1991.__The one-time additional
fee of $10 is credited to the Highway Fund for administrative and
production costs.

 
These special designating plates must be of a design as
determined by the Secretary of State.
