Sec. 1. Inland, rural tourism promotion. Resolved: That the Office of
Tourism and Community Development within the Department of
Economic and Community Development, in consultation with the
Maine Promotion Council Cooperative, shall develop a plan to
promote tourism in inland, rural areas of the State. These areas
are predominantly wide open spaces with a long-standing
agricultural heritage. The plan must include strategies to
identify the regions' agricultural heritage and highlight this in
tourism promotion. The plan must be presented to the joint
standing committee having jurisdiction over business and economic
development matters and to the 119th Legislature no later than
January 15, 2000.

 
SUMMARY

 
This resolve directs the Office of Tourism and Community
Development to work with the Maine Promotion Council Cooperative
to develop strategies that will promote tourism in inland, rural
areas of the State with an agricultural heritage.
