Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §7409 is enacted to read:

 
§7409.__Permission; private property

 
Before hunting deer, moose or bear on private property not
owned by corporations in organized municipalities, a resident or
nonresident must obtain written permission from the owner or
lessee of that land or the owner's or lessee's agent.

 
1.__Expire.__The written permission given expires at the end
of the regular firearms hunting season.__Permission must be
obtained from the owner every season.

 
2.__Produce permission.__The written permission must be kept
in the person's possession while hunting and the person must
produce the permission when requested to do so by any law
enforcement officer or the property owner.

 
3.__Posted land; exception.__A written permission is not
required if the owner has posted the land, indicating that
hunting is permitted on the land.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill requires that hunters of deer, moose or bear obtain
written permission from land owners before hunting on privately
owned property.
